David Connon and Humanities Iowa Present:
Josiah Bushnell Grinnell and the Iowa Underground Railroad

Presented at the K.C. Hall

This season's first Reminisce Society meeting will be January 22nd 2019 at 10 a.m. at the K.C. Hall next to the library. This month we are joined by Humanities Iowa's David Connon as he presents "Josiah Bushnell Grinnell and the Iowa Underground Railroad".

Join us to hear the history of Josiah Grinnell and his involvement with the Underground Railroad, his successes, and the issues that arose from his actions. J.B. Grinnell and other Grinnell residents helped at least 37 fugitive slaves who passed through their town before the Civil War. But some residents opposed this work. David Connon will tell a story of racism, noble actions and conflict. He will highlight abolitionist's John Brown's visit to Grinnell and Grinnell's first riot over the presence of slaves in public schools.

The Reminisce Society's programs are free and open to everyone. If you are a person with a disability who requires special assistance or for further information, please call the library's director, Sonja Ferrell at 61.682.7563 extension 202.
