Dear Library Patrons:
Out of an abundance of caution the Ottumwa Public Library is temporarily
cancelling all programs and outreach that we have scheduled at the library
through April 1. At that time we will
reassess what the situation is in our community for the COVID 19 virus.
We are always striving to serve the community by offering these literacy,
educational, informative, and entertaining programs, but the public’s health
and that of our staff is of paramount importance. While there have been no cases of the virus
in Wapello County, we believe we are being proactive in preventing any spread
through library activities.
- All library-sponsored programs, events, and classes are postponed. (This includes all book clubs in and out of the library.)
- All outreach is cancelled.
- All toys and art supplies have been removed from the Children’s Room
If you visit the library we are increasing our cleaning including wiping down
door handles, our circulation desks, computer stations, bathrooms, drinking
fountains and returned materials more frequently than in the past. While this is not a guaranteed prevention of
any spread, it will help in curtailing it.
If you are feeling ill or showing any of the signs or symptoms of this
or any other flu like sickness please do not visit the library at this time.
Other library services will continue to be available, and our staff look
forward to serving you in the building, via the phone, or online.
If you are unable to visit the Library, we have a number of digital services
available. You can enjoy downloading magazines, e-books, audio books, music or
children’s Tumble Books from our website with your library card. These are all free services and are available
24/7.
For authoritative and current information about COVID-19, we encourage you
to contact the Wapello
County Public Health website, the Iowa
Department of Public Health, and the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention.
The Ottumwa Public Library understands that many community members feel
stressed and worried about the threat of COVID-19, and we will do what it takes
to remove any library stresses from that list.
If you have materials due and don’t feel you can get them back in time
simply call us and we will work with you.
We will continue to keep you updated through our website and Facebook page.
Thank you,
Sonja Ferrell
