Library Resumes Computer Appointments

Dear Ottumwa Public Library Patrons,

We are excited to announce that starting today, Monday, March 15, we will again be offering up our public computers for use by appointment only.  This decision is not made lightly and we are heartened to see our cases in Wapello county of COVID-19 decreasing while more and more residents are getting vaccinated.

We know that those who do not have a device or access to the internet at home have been some of those affected most by our closure and we hope that by taking this small step that we can again meet those community member’s information needs.

While we would love to go back to normal and reopen the doors of the library to the public, need to have the positivity numbers go lower before we can take that step.  We continue to rely on local public health and safety guidance as we make our decisions. We have put in place many safety protocols to make this process safe. Included in those are:

·         You will be asked to wear a mask in the library. Even if you have been vaccinated masks are required. Staff will be wearing masks and it is the best way we can protect each other. If you do not have one, we will provide you with a disposable one.  If you do not want to wear a mask we would ask that you use our WiFi from outside the library or check out one of our WiFi HotSpots.

·         You will be asked to use hand sanitizer upon entering the library.

·         Appointments will be limited to 5 per hour to limit the number of people in the building and to allow for social distancing between computers.  If you need to bring any children with you, they will need to remain by you and cannot wander in the building.

·         Patrons will be restricted to the computer area and  not checking out or looking at materials.

·         If you or a member of your household are sick or have you been exposed to someone with Covid-19 in the last 2 weeks, we ask that you do not come to the Library. Contact our staff about other options to get materials: (TEMPORARY NUMBER) (515)996-0448

All of our decisions are made with the health and safety of our patrons and staff as the number one priority.  We will continue to offer the curbside, homebound delivery, offer free WiFi on library grounds, as well as mobile hotspots for internet use in your home or car. All of these are in addition to our online services and programs at

Thank you for your continued patience and support as we work out the safest way to serve the public.  We are looking forward to seeing you again.
