Youth Services Librarian

The Ottumwa Public Library is seeking a Youth Services Librarian. The Youth Services Librarian will assist the director and assistant director in selection and maintenance of materials for children’s and teen collections; weed collections, and oversee expenditures and budget for materials and programs in the children’s and teen departments. They will plan and coordinate children’s and teen’s programs including story times, book clubs, summer reading programs, and special events. Duties also include providing readers advisory and reference services to children and teens, outreach to the community by establishing good public relations for children’s and teen’s services at the library.  They will attend and participate in professional workshops to stay current in the field and perform other duties as needed.

 

Minimum requirements:  A successful candidate will need to be enthusiastic, outgoing, energetic and creative with all ages of children, a team player and be public service oriented.   Strong children’s literacy and reader’s advisory skills are a plus. Preferences are for a graduate from a four year college or university with a degree in education and a Masters in Library Science (may substitute three years as a Children or Teen Librarian).

 

Compensation: Wages will range from $16.89-$19.42/hour depending on experience and education and we offer an excellent benefits package. This is a 40 hour/week position with some nights and weekends scheduled.
