Starting in 1854 and lasting until 1929 a system which became known as the Orphan Trains came into being. It is estimated that over 300,000 children ranging from babies to teenagers were transported by railroads to every state and territory in the Union. A story that has resulted in 4 million descendants, many who are not aware of their heritage.
